lutris-scripts

Hand-tuned Lutris installer scripts and configs for old PC games. Bring your own ISOs.

Each installer prompts for the files that belong to your copy of the game — disc images, patches, fixes — and only downloads community fixes that are freely redistributable. Everything else (runtime configs, display workarounds) is committed here too, so a machine can be rebuilt end-to-end from this repo.

Games

Need for Speed: Underground 2 (UK, 2 CD)

File What it is
need-for-speed-underground-2/installer.yml Lutris installer script
need-for-speed-underground-2/NFSUnderground2.WidescreenFix.ini Reference runtime config of the widescreen fix

The installer prompts for: disc 1 + 2 ISOs, the UK v1.2 patch EXE, and the no-CD SPEED2.EXE. Adapted from legluondunet's installer, which hardcodes US disc images and US patches from archive.org. The ThirteenAG widescreen fix is fetched automatically.

Baked-in decisions:

  • Free-look camera disabled (CAMERA.Enable=0) — the 2026 rewrite's mouse-look sticks when the car is stationary and survives menu/load cycles
  • Framerate capped at 60 (FPSLimit=60) — the panel runs 165 Hz and the engine misbehaves far above 60; with VRR this still paces smoothly
  • Gamescope at 2560x1440 (system: section) — pillarboxed, pixel-perfect fullscreen on a 32:9 panel; untick Enable Gamescope in Lutris for native ultrawide

The reference INI is what a finished install should look like; the installer writes the same values via its write_config step. Game settings and saves live in the Wine prefix and are not tracked here.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (EU "Porsche 2000" rerelease, 1 CD)

File What it is
need-for-speed-porsche-unleashed/installer.yml Lutris installer script

The installer prompts for the rerelease disc's .bin and converts it to an ISO on the fly (Lutris's 7z -tIso can't read raw 2352-byte-sector images). Adapted from legluondunet's installer (same flow: autorun install → NFS5-Combined-Patch → language select), with the archive.org ISO replaced by your own disc, an install-location check after the InstallShield run, and d7vk bumped v2.1 → v2.3. The NFS5-Combined-Patch already includes the official v3.5 patch content and a patched nfs5.exe, so no separate patch/crack files are needed. SilentPatch is installed on top — its DirectInput/affinity/Alt+Tab fixes complement Verok's patch (and fix an OpenGL renderer memory leak), reading the existing nfs5.ini for its affinity setting.

Baked-in decisions:

  • ThrashDriver opengl3 — the Combined Patch author's recommended renderer; in testing dx7 (via d7vk) flickered in the menus. d7vk and the ddraw override are still installed as the DX7 fallback path
  • SilentPatch native dinput override — loads its ASI plugin instead of Wine's builtin dinput
  • Car Detail must be set High in Options → Graphics after first launch — fresh profiles default to low on fast CPUs and races render wireframe cars, regardless of renderer
  • Framerate capped at 60 (d3d9.maxFrameRate via dxvk.conf) — same 165 Hz panel reasoning as NFSU2
  • Gamescope at 2560x1440 (system: section) — same as NFSU2; untick Enable Gamescope in Lutris for native ultrawide
  • Menus default to English, selectable at install time
